At 20 years old, Eugène Mercier founded his House with the ambition of making champagne, once reserved for the elite, accessible to all, while preserving its quality. A visionary, he introduced electricity into his cellars in 1886 and established himself as a pioneer in communication by collaborating with the Lumière brothers for one of the first advertisements.
At the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889, Eugène Mercier presented a giant blending Foudre containing the equivalent of 200,000 bottles and weighing more than 20 tons. A technical feat and a stroke of genius in communication that would win second prize, behind the Eiffel Tower.

30 meters below the chalky soil of Epernay, explore the heritage of the House aboard the Mercier train. Explore part of the 18 km of cellars and admire the bas-reliefs sculpted by Gustave Navlet. Also discover thousands of bottles nestled in this underground labyrinth.
