Located on the avenue de Champagne, prestigious artery of Epernay, the museum of Champagne wine and regional Archeology tells with more than 2000 exhibits, the history of the Champagne territory, since the formation of its soil million of years ago to the present day.
The museum is located in the Château Perrier, a historic monument and former residence of champagne merchants, an exceptional architectural and landscape setting. Its world-class collections are showcased in a modern, fun and interactive scenography.
Start the visit with the geological and paleontological history of the region, then with the human settlement in Champagne, illustrated by a rich selection of archaeological pieces leading the visitor from the Neolithic burials to the goldsmiths of the Merovingian society, passing by the exceptional Celtic ornaments and Gallo-Roman pottery.
The route then turns to Champagne wine. Discover an important wine collection made up of machines, tools, glassware, paintings, posters, lithographs and advertising plaques retracing the evolution of production and consumption methods for this iconic beverage.
The visit ends with a tribute to local personalities, 19th century and Belle Epoque collectors who bequeathed to the museum sculptures, paintings, decorative art objects and international ethnographic curiosities.
