Geocaching

A modern-day treasure hunt

Ideal for a family outing, geocaching is a fun way to discover historical or natural sites, monuments and even some less well-known places. Put on your trainers, pick up your smartphone and set off on a modern-day treasure hunt.

The treasure hunt

of modern times

Try to locate small hidden boxes, known as geocaches, using your smartphone or GPS. Inside, you’ll find a small treasure and a logbook (a book that allows you to write down your find).

Geocaching allows you to discover original, historical and generally interesting places. It could be a viewpoint, a wash house or a small chapel lost in the middle of the woods but still full of charm. Caches can be found in cities as well as in the countryside.

A game, and a fun leisure activity: some caches are simple, others are more complex. For these, there are riddles to be solved, sometimes with different steps to take, in order to find the cache. When you get closer, you may have to be ingenious to find some of the best hidden “treasures”…

It's nice but

How does it work?

Download the “Geocaching” App or go to the official Geocaching website.

Create an account and the treasure hunt opens!

Look at the caches around you and select the one you want. Enter the GPS coordinates of the cache into your sat-nav or phone, and all that’s left to do is to find the infamous cache.

Did you find it? Congratulations! Write your name, the day and the time of your discovery on the little logbook inside. And if you find a small object in the cache and take it, remember to replace it with something else!

Be discreet. You don’t want people who don’t do geocaching (commonly known as “Muggles”) to spot you finding the cache.
