Exploring

the authentic villages

The Champagne region is filled with villages each as charming as the next. Villages classified as “villages fleuris” (flowered villages), “petites cités de caractères” as well as “plus beau village de France” (most beautiful village in France)… You will be amazed by the variety of landscapes and heritage that the villages surrounding Châlons have to offer.

Coolus

3 km

If you like the great outdoors, you will love this village located at the gateway to Châlons. Don’t miss the Domaine de Coolus, an ideal place for a family outing or sports activities. The estate, which covers almost 38 hectares, is home to around a hundred different varieties of bird.

A number of footpaths and orienteering courses have been set up. The area is ideal for walking or for organising races.

Horse lovers will be delighted as the Coolus Stables are just next door.

L'Epine

8 km

Located 8 km from Châlons-en-Champagne, towards Sainte-Menehould (RN 3), this village is famous for its basilica. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, this building has been a place of pilgrimage for several centuries.

The basilica is visible from far and wide, and its two spires tower over the Châlons plain.

“Les Armes de Champagne”, hotel-spa and restaurant, is located just opposite the basilica. This is an ideal place for a romantic weekend away. Just opposite, you can also enjoy lunch at the Basilica Café.

Juvigny

10 km

This commune is home to a chateau, which is listed as a Historic Monument. It is located near the Grands Prés lake in a wooded park of 18 hectares, surrounded by a moat filled with water. This private property also offers bed and breakfast accommodation.

The church is well worth a visit. It features an organ that was built in Châlons-en-Champagne in 1663 for the Cordeliers Convent in that town and transferred to the village church in 1791. The 17th century pulpit comes from the Abbey of Saint-Rémi in Reims.

The village is also renowned for its rock music festival, Les Moissons Rock, which is held each year at the start of the summer.

Baconnes

26 km

This village will appeal to anyone who loves flowers. Since 1979, when it received its 4th “Fleur” award, it has won many other prizes in this field.

No plants are bought. The members of a village association produce more than 30,000 of them, a large part of which is donated to the village to decorate the local window boxes, flower beds and borders.

Most of the houses have no gates or fences, a sign of the welcoming nature of the local residents. The church is a listed building made of chalk and limestone. Its bell is exceptionally old and weighs around 400 kilos!

Saint-Amand sur Fion

28 km

Saint-Amand sur Fion is considered the most beautiful village in France. This picturesque commune, located in the heart of the Vitryat hills, is especially reputed for its numerous timber-framed houses.

Its medieval church is also very attractive. Built in the 12th century over a natural spring, it has been redesigned several times since then, without ever detracting from its architectural beauty. Its exceptional transept and chancel were built using plans from the cathedral in Châlons-en-Champagne, in a classic Champagne ogival style.

A 12 km hiking trail allows you to discover all the village’s key attractions.

Haussimont

31 km

You will be amazed by this commune, a real oasis in the Champagne plains. The natural environment is exceptional. This is a garden city with a strong commitment to preserving biodiversity

Don’t miss the 15-hectare nature reserve, the LPO refuge wood and the various themed gardens located in the centre of the village, such as the medieval garden, the sensory garden, and more. A paradise where the flora and fauna are protected and preserved.

The village also boasts a sports complex that can be hired for both private and corporate functions.
