If, while travelling between Châlons-en-Champagne and Reims, you come across a sign saying “Baconnes village fleuri”, it’s well worth following. Set in the midst of Champagne’s vast agricultural plain, this lush green village is sure to impress.
Most of the houses and properties in Baconnes have neither gates nor fences and thus seem to be built in a large garden. This unusual feature, which is rare in the region, is a testament to the locals’ open and welcoming nature.
In the village, the floral displays are a joint undertaking, with all tasks being carried out by local volunteers, from cultivating the plants to the daily maintenance of the communal flowerbeds. The residents are extremley proud to live in a “4 fleurs” village and thrilled to help in its upkeep. A real team effort!
