Our wonderful gardens

Nature is never far away in Châlons-en-Champagne. The Jards are three gardens, which have been listed as Historical Monuments since 1929. Located right in the city centre, they provide an enchanting setting. These green lungs of the city are ideal places to enjoy a stroll and relax, and are cherished by local residents.

Three Gardens

Three Stories

The Petit Jard

The most remarkable!

We have very green fingers in Châlons! The Petit Jard (Small Garden) is an arboretum, listed as a French ”jardin remarquable”, where you’ll discover hundreds of plant species. Enjoy a leisurely stroll with family or friends, there’s a play area for youngsters and a space to picnic on the lawn, shaded by century-old trees. What’s more, it has one of the most beautiful views of the city overlooking the Château du Marché.

The Grand Jard

The most lively!

The Grand Jard (Large Garden) is full of life. Featuring a skate park and playground, water-sport areas, it also hosts a number of cultural and sports events throughout the year (including concerts, shows and festivals). In addition, it is the meeting point for passengers travelling along the Canal Latéral, who can stop off at the boating centre.

Châlons Beach

A real holiday feel

In summer, the area is taken over by Châlons Beach offering sun loungers, sports activities (including beach volleyball, beach football, basketball, mini-golf, and table tennis) as well as water sports (including pedalos, canoes, and the Ep’eau’pée boat trip). What’s more, there are also a number of food trucks and pop-up champagne bars, creating a real holiday feel!

The Jard Anglais

The wildest!

The Jard Anglais (English Garden) is the wildest of the three, a true peace haven where walkers on their way to Santiago de Compostela regularly cross paths. Each winter, the centre of the garden floods, creating a magical sight. To reach it, you need to cross a splendid footbridge offering a breath-taking view of the Jards and the cathedral.
